Titanium Seamless Pipe

Seamless titanium alloy tube is a long titanium material with a hollow section and no seams around it. Titanium tubes have a hollow section and are often used as pipes for transporting fluids, such as pipes for transporting oil, natural gas, coal gas, water and certain solid materials.

Titanium seamless tube has excellent strength and corrosion resistance.
The tensile strength is 686-1176MPA, much better than the strength of steel.
The density of titanium is only 60% of the steel, so titanium pipe is more light weight than steel.
The hardness HRC of titanium alloy (annealed state) is 32-38.

And tungsten-free titanium tube can quickly form a dense, thin titanium oxide film in the air below 550°C.
This feature makes titanium alloy seamless pipe excellent corrosion-resistant than most stainless steel in oxidizing media such as atmosphere, seawater, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and strong alkaline environments.

 

There are two type titanium pipe: titanium welded pipe and titanium seamless pipe.

 

Titanium welded pipe made by welding after curling the plate, this production process is relatively simple and efficient.

Specifically, titanium welded pipe production process including: titanium strip coiling, longitudinal shearing, welding, shaping and sizing, heat treatment, straightening, eddy current and ultrasonic testing, air tightness testing, and finally finished welded pipes.

Titanium welded pipe production has no limit on length and it is particularly suitable for the production of products with single specifications, large batches and thin walls titanium welded pipe.
Titanium welded pipe are welded by titanium plate, diameter range is O.D100-610mm, wall thickness is 2-6mm.

 

Seamless titanium pipes is made by extrusion process and can reach a maximum length of 15 meters. 

Titanium alloy seamless pipe is refined through extrusion process, diameter is O.D 6-108mm, wall thickness is 0.5-8mm, max length is 15000mm. Although process of titanium alloy seamless tube is more complicated, but performance of titanium alloy seamless pipe is more superior, especially in aspect ratio and wall thickness control.

Two methods for preparing titanium tube billets:

One is drilling or perforation extrusion, which has a large materials loss but can ensure uniform wall thickness of the tube billet;

The other is the cross piercing processing, which has less materials cost but may have a certain tolerance in the thickness of the tube billet. Titanium seamless pipe usually have smaller wall thickness and diameter.

 

Titanium pipe, as an important form of titanium materials, play a direct impact on the performance and quality of various application scenarios.

In terms of implementation standards, titanium tubes mainly follow ASTM B337, ASTM B338 and ASTM B861 specifications to ensure that their quality and performance meet international standards.

In actual use, as long as the welding process meets the standard, there is no significant difference in performance between titanium welded pipe and titanium seamless tube.

However, for specific high-precision or high-performance requirements, titanium seamless always better.
