Advantages of Nickel Pipe

Highly durable

Nickel is an excellent material for pipes, especially in applications requiring corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance, such as chemical processing, oil refining, and power generation.

Unique ability to be ductile and durable

The ductility of nickel pipes makes them easy to form shapes for various pipe fittings, allowing designs that are intricate and complicated to accurately execute. Additionally, they are also highly resistant to stress cracking, which means they can resist breakage or cracking under stress.

Excellent welding and joining properties

Enhancing the diversity of applications of nickel pipes. The material is weldable by various welding techniques, allowing for easy joining of pipes without compromising performance.

Types of Nickel Pipe

Seamless nickel pipes

Seamless nickel pipes are manufactured through a seamless extrusion process, ensuring uniformity and integrity throughout the pipe length. They are highly resistant to corrosion and suitable for applications requiring seamless construction and superior performance. Key industries utilizing seamless nickel alloy pipes include chemical processing, petrochemicals, oil and gas, and aerospace.

Welded nickel pipes

Welded nickel pipes are fabricated by welding together sections of nickel alloy plates or coils. While they May not offer the same level of corrosion resistance as seamless pipes, welded nickel pipes are more cost-effective and are commonly used in less demanding applications such as plumbing, hvac systems, and structural applications.

Production Process of Nickel Pipe

01/

Raw material selection: The process begins with the selection of high-quality raw materials. Nickel, along with other alloying elements such as chromium, molybdenum, and iron, is carefully chosen to meet specific chemical compositions. This selection is critical to achieving the desired mechanical and chemical properties of the final product.

02/

Melting and alloying: The selected raw materials are melted in an electric arc furnace or vacuum induction furnace. During this stage, precise control over temperature and composition ensures a homogenous melt. The molten metal is then refined to remove impurities, resulting in a high-purity alloy.

03/

Casting: The refined alloy is cast into ingots or billets, which serve as the starting material for tube production. Continuous casting or traditional ingot casting methods are used, depending on the desired product specifications.

04/

Finishing: The tubes are subjected to various finishing operations, including straightening, cutting, and surface treatment. These steps ensure the tubes meet the required dimensional tolerances and surface quality standards.

05/

Hot and cold working: The ingots or billets undergo hot working processes such as extrusion or rolling to form the basic tube shape. These processes involve high temperatures to make the metal more malleable. Subsequent cold working, including drawing and pilgering, further reduces the tube dimensions and enhances its mechanical properties.

06/

Heat treatment: Heat treatment processes like annealing are applied to relieve internal stresses, refine the microstructure, and enhance the mechanical properties of the tubes. Precise control of temperature and cooling rates during heat treatment is crucial to achieving the desired characteristics.

Inspection of Nickel pipe
Nickel Seamless Pipe

Pipe weld quality tests

Assessment of nickel pipe weld quality shall be performed byeither the fattening test or the guided bend test.Test specimensshall be selected randomly from each lot of pipe manufactured. Test plates of the same material May be attached to the pipe andwelded as prolongations of the pipe longitudinal seam.

Hydrostatic test of nickel welded pipe

Each length of pipe shall withstand, without showingbulges, leaks, or other defects, an internal hydrostatic pressurethat will produce in the pipe wall a stress of 50 % of theminimum specifed yield strength at room temperature.

Flattening test of welded pipe

Welded pipe in the fnal conditionshall be capable of withstanding, without cracking, fatteningunder a load applied gradually at room temperature until thedistance between the load platens is h inches. The weld shall be positioned at either 90° or 270° to the direction of the applied load.

Customizable Nickel Pipe

These pipes are suitable for a variety of applications, including industrial, automotive, construction, chemical, oil & gas. Nickel pipe is available in customizable inner diameter, size, length and material, allowing customers to tailor the product to meet their needs.

FAQ

Q: What is nickel pipe used for?

A: This makes them good for use in heat exchangers in chemical processing, for example, which relies on tubing that can withstand both the hot and corrosive environment. Nickel-based tubes and pipes are also used in steam generators, aircraft systems, and in oil and gas extraction.

Q: What is nickel steel used for?

A: Ferritic steels with high nickel content, typically greater than 3%, find extensive use in applications involving exposure to temperatures from 0 °C to -196 °C. Such applications include storage tanks for liquefied hydrocarbon gases, as well as structures and machinery designed for use in cold regions.

Q: What is the purpose of nickel coating?

A: Nickel electroplating serves a variety of practical and aesthetic purposes. From a practical standpoint, nickel plating can help protect against corrosion and improve wear resistance, as well as increase the thickness of a surface. Nickel can enhance the appearance of an object by adding brightness.

Q: What is nickel best used for?

A: A silvery metal that resists corrosion even at high temperatures. Nickel resists corrosion and is used to plate other metals to protect them. It is, however, mainly used in making alloys such as stainless steel.

Q: What is the ASME standard for seamless pipe?

A: These pipes includes seamless or welded types, and applied in high or low temperature and pressures. The pipe distinguished from tube (Pipe vs Tube), here the pipe is specially for pipeline systems, fluids (Oil and gas, water, slurry) transmissions. Use the standard of ASME B 36.10M.

Q: Is ASTM A53 seamless pipe?

A: A53 covers Seamless and Welded, Black and Hot-Dipped Galvanized nominal (average) wall pipe for coiling, bending, flanging and other special purposes and is suitable for welding. Continuous-Welded pipe is not intended for flanging. Purpose for which pipe is intended should be stated on order.
